Standard Motorcycle Test (Full Licence Category A2)
The practical motorcycle riding test consists of two modules, both of which need to be successfully completed in order to pass the test and acquire a full motorcycle licence.
The Standard Motorcycle Test can be taken on an automatic or geared machine between 120cc - 125cc. This test is suitable for riders aged 17+ with little or no previous experience on motorcycles other than during CBT. It is also the recommended test for anyone over 21 years who is unable to manage the larger, heavier, more powerful Direct Access machines.
Once passed, this is a Full Motorcycle Licence, however the holder may only ride machines restricted to 33bhp for two years. After this two year period, the bhp restriction lifts automatically.
Module 1
This module is an assessment of certain specified motorcycling manoeuvres and lasts approximately 20 minutes. These manoeuvres are conducted away from public roads on specifically designed motorcycle manoeuvring areas.
Specified Motorcycling Manoeuvres

- Figure of eight
- 30kph/19mph circuit
- 50kph/32mph avoidance
- Controlled stop
- U-turn
- Slow ride
- 30kph/19mph circuit
- 50kph/32mph emergency brake
On the day of your Module 1 Test, you will be asked by the examiner to demonstrate your riding ability on either the left-hand or right-hand circuit.
When you pass Module 1 you will receive a test pass certificate which you must bring with you when you take Module 2. The Module 1 pass certificate is valid for the duration of your Theory & Hazard Perception Test Certificate.
Module 2
The Module 2 Test consists of an eyesight test, safety questions and at least 30 minutes of road riding, covering a variety of road and traffic conditions.
Practical Test Documation
You must bring the following documentation with you to both Module 1 and Module 2 of your test. Failure to produce these documents will result in the test being cancelled and the fee lost.
- Valid Driving Licence (Photo Card and Counterpart if 'new style' licence)
- Valid Passport (If 'old style' paper licence)
- Valid CBT Certificate
- Valid Theory and Hazard Perception Test Certificate
- Valid Module 1 Test Pass Certificate (when attending Module 2)
What bikes do we use? Honda CG 125
We use the Honda CG 125 as it is without doubt the most confidence-inspiring bike to begin your motorcycling life.
One of the main reasons for its original design, and ongoing success, is that it was conceived as a simple and rugged bike for developing countries. This however, has transferred to the rider training market, where we see trainees grow in ability and develop very quickly, through its easy to ride and forgivving nature. The perfect choice for a rider wishing to ride a geared bike and undertake the A2 Category Full Licence Test.
