Direct Access Motorcycle Test (Full Licence Category A)

The practical motorcycle riding test consists of two modules, both of which need to be successfully completed in order to pass the test and acquire a full motorcycle licence. The Direct Access Motorcycle Test can be taken on an automatic or geared machine with a minimum output of 46.6bhp, this usually means machines of 500cc and above.
The test is for riders aged 21+ preferably with previous motorcycle riding experience. It is the recommended test for anyone who is able to ride the more powerful Direct Access machines safely. Once passed, this is a Full Motorcycle Licence allowing the holder access to ride more powerful machines immediatly.

Module 1

This module is an assessment of certain specified motorcycling manoeuvres and lasts approximately 20 minutes. These manoeuvres are conducted away from public roads on specifically designed motorcycle manoeuvring areas.

Specified Motorcycling Manoeuvres

On the day of your Module 1 Test, you will be asked by the examiner to demonstrate your riding ability on either the left-hand or right-hand circuit.
When you pass Module 1 you will receive a test pass certificate which you must bring with you when you take Module 2. The Module 1 pass certificate is valid for the duration of your Theory & Hazard Perception Test Certificate.

Module 2

The Module 2 Test consists of an eyesight test, safety questions and at least 30 minutes of road riding, covering a variety of road and traffic conditions.

Practical Test Documation

You must bring the following documentation with you to both Module 1 and Module 2 of your test. Failure to produce these documents will result in the test being cancelled and the fee lost.

What bikes do we use?         Kawasaki ER 500

Kawasaki ER 500The definitive Direct Access motorcycle. Having used several different Direct Access machines over the last decade, experience tells us this is the bike of choice when learning the principles of riding a bigger bike safely. The performance of this machine makes it perfect for anyone's first experience of riding a big bike, thanks to the unintimidating way it delivers power and its neutral handling. The ER500 allows you to ride a larger machine with confidence, and in the knowledge that you have a bike carefully selected by us to meet your riding needs. We also use the Kawasaki ER 500 because it was the UK's top-selling 500cc machine. Reduced compression and increased flywheel weight make the engine smooth at lower rpm, which makes it the ideal rider-training machine. The 17in wheels make the seat height low, allowing a wide selection of learners to ride it comfortably.
