History

Smart Rider Training Limited was established in 1999 by Kev Smart and Heather Boldy.

Kev and Heather originally met in the early 1970s whilst growing up in Cottingham. After leaving school their lives took very different paths. Kev worked ‘offshore’ for many years until deciding he would like to spend more time ‘onshore’ and indulge his passion for motorcycling. He trained as a motorcycle-riding instructor in 1996.

Heather moved to Leeds to study, upon returning to the area she developed, operated and eventually sold a successful business. It was then she decided to devote more time to her hobby – motorcycling!

Kev had spent a couple of years working for local motorcycle rider training schools when two of these companies faced financial difficulties, resulting in bankruptcy, it highlighted the fact that the ability to ride a motorcycle was by no means an indicator of the ability to run a business.

After much research it also became apparent that the ability to ride a motorcycle oneself was also not an indicator of the ability to instruct, or assess someone else’s riding.

The gap in the market grew steadily wider.

Heather completed her initial teacher training in 1989, combining this with her proven track record in business and Kev’s experience and knowledge of the local motorcycle rider training market, it did not take long for Smart Rider Training to establish itself as the market leader.
